Can you hack it! In a true test of character in our new challenge events! Now with full electronic tag timing!

These are stunning routes at any time of the year but reach their peak in the Autumn with the richness of colours in the forest and moors at this time of year.

We are also running a 10K on the same day called the Adderstone 10K - a simple and not too challenging 10K around the Adderstone area of Dalby Forest along forest tracks.

Cold drinks and snacks provided during the event, plus hot and cold drink with flapjack provided at finish line.

All finishers will receive an exclusive Forest & Moors medal.

Full electronic timing for all entrants.

Price includes entry to Dalby Forest.

Entry prices are:

  • Full Marathon £25
  • Half £18
  • 10K £15

NO on-the-day entries.

An administration fee of 6% will be applied to each order by our online entry system partner, Results Base.

The routes

Both routes start and finish in the “Great Yorkshire Forest” from the Adderstone car park in Dalby Forest.

The route heads through the forest, with extensive views when gently descending Stoneclose Rigg, enabling you to catch your breath before the sharp climb out of Staindale and up to the Fox and Rabbit Pub (water station), it's then down the pleasant meanderings of Cross Dale, the route then turns up Newtondale and its challenge of ups and downs and the occasional (depends on the weather) mud of Levisham Woods. Onwards and upwards to Levisham Elbow (water and snacks).

Here the Half and Full course split:

Half: Heading out across Levisham Moor, towards Skelton Tower and the majestic sweep of Moorland called Levisham Bottoms (truly wrongly named) which gives top class running on grass through bracken and heather with fantastic views down onto the North York Moors Railway as it steams on through Newtondale. The route climbs out of Saltergate Moor to give extensive views over the magical Hole of Horcum, before re-joining the Full Marathon route on the “Old Wife’s Way” (Water station).

Full: Heads downhill for a short quick burst of single track road, before a climb through woodland and across Stony Moor to a section through remote areas of Cropton Forest (water station). Upon leaving the forest a gentle climb leads to the high areas of Wheeldale Moor, with views stretching from the sea to moorland to forest, from here it's a rollercoaster of a run across Wheeldale Moor, taking in; Wheeldale Bridge (water station), Howl Moor and over Simon Howe towards Ellerbeck, crossing the North York Moors railway (watch out for those classic steam trains), it's then up to Lockton High Moor, Saltergate Moor and Hazel Head Moor (you're seeing where the name came from). Here you join up with the Half Marathon on the “Old Wife’s Way” (Water station).

Both routes now come together: The Old Wife's Way takes you along the edge of Lockton Low Moor with extensive views of Blakey Topping on your left and Landgdale and Dalby Forest filling your view on the right. Then some truly lovely running (it's a gently downhill, soft going, single track footpath) down past the Bridestones and into a beautiful piece of mature woodland and down into Staindale with last grab of water before the sharp climb back to the finish.
