Run Banchory – 10k Multi-Terrain Race

Come and join us at the first ever Run Banchory event at King George V Park on Sunday 16th June in association with SB Fitness. The main event is a 10k multi-terrain race that predominately takes in the scenic Scolty/Blackhall forest area. The race route will cater for all running abilities but will definitely be known as a good test.

There will also be a 1k fun run for school pupils between primary 1 and 7 which will take place in the grounds of the King George V Park. There will be medals, refreshments and a great community atmosphere!

The Course

The Run Banchory 10k will start and finish in the centre of the town at the King George V playing field. Runners will then head out of the Park, via the Old Gates, and turn left on the B974, over the River Dee bridge and up the path, taking the first right towards the Scolty Hill Car Park. At the first fork in the road, runners will bear right and follow the road until it becomes a forestry track. Runners will then follow the forestry track up a gradual, but challenging incline until meeting the old Shooting Greens road within Scolty grounds. Runners will then bear left and head for home, where the track eventually becomes a tarmac surface again, and at the fork bear right onto the same road as the outward run. Runners then turn left down the steep steps onto the B974. Turn right through the playing field gates to the finish in the King George V playing field.

The terrain is one which is approximately a 50% mix between tarmac and forestry road with only a few metres at the start and end being on grass. The forestry track is predominately hard packed with Land Rover trails at the initial entrance of the route. Trail shoes and standard supported running shoes will be suitable for the race. There will be a water station at the half way point of the route as runners come to the end of the hilly elevation. The elevation gain is approximately 528ft/160.93 metres with the maximum elevation gain being 628ft/191.41 metres. To download a map and course profile click here.
