Farnborough Half Marathon 2019

Farnborough Half Marathon 2019

Information and registration

Sunday
27 January 2019

Sunday 27th January is an important date for Farnborough as it hosts the third Farnborough Half Marathon, returning after a sell-out first and second edition. Home of the world famous Air Show, Farnborough was crying out for a major running event and now, with the full support of Rushmoor Borough Council, we are pleased to say the town has one established - The Farnborough Winter Half Marathon.

The start and finish area will again be under the famous Airship hangar in Farnborough Business Park, which now stands as a monument to the past as a great piece of industrial art. A revision of the route so that we do not have the two hills in the Farnborough International site makes the route faster than ever. Starting at the famous hangar, the route does a loop of the Business Park before heading out to the Frank Whittle roundabout and around the airfield to Fleet Road. Running along Fleet Road to Farnborough Road the route then drops down Government Hill and then back towards the canal along Shoe Lane, Laffin’s Lane and back onto Fleet Road, from there the route goes back to the finish in the reverse of the route out.

Entirely traffic-free, we feel that the Farnborough Half is now one of the flattest, fastest routes in the South.

The 5km Fun Run is open to all runners over the age of 8 years (under 12s must be accompanied by an adult), which is on the first 5km of the Half Marathon route and is also traffic-free. The 5km will be chip timed.

For 2018 we are introducing a Kiddies Run for 5 to 8 year olds. This will be on a safe circuit of 800m within the Business Park starting and finishing under the famous Airship Hangar. The kiddies run is free to enter but you should register your children online through the entry link on the right.

Local Charity Support

Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care

We are delighted to be supporting local charity Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care through the Farnborough Winter Half Marathon and Fun Run.

For over 35 years Phyllis Tuckwell has been supporting and caring for patients and families who are living with cancer, or another terminal illness (such as heart, lung or neurological disease). Their wide range of services, all of which are offered free of charge, ensure that both patients and their families are able to make the most of the time they have left together.

Care is delivered from the Hospice in Farnham where there is an 18 bed In-Patient Unit and a Day Hospice, at the Beacon Centre in Guildford and through their Hospice Care at Home team out in the community. It costs around £10 million a year to run the Hospice’s services but only 20% of their costs are covered by the NHS/Government. This means they have to raise around £20,000 every day and we are delighted to be doing our bit to support them.

If you would like to support the work of Phyllis Tuckwell please visit our Virgin Money/Just Giving page and give a donation. Or you may like to ask friends and family to sponsor you. Whatever you can do to benefit this worthwhile local charity will be gratefully received.

Visit Phyllis Tuckwell's website for more information or go straight to their Virgin Money Giving page.

Step By Step

For almost 25 years, Step by Step have been working directly with local young people to support them in achieving their aspirations.

We believe that young people needn’t be defined by difficult circumstances and intend to empower them through our work, ultimately preventing homelessness. We take a unique step by step approach, providing accommodation; personal development opportunities such as skills workshops and training sessions; and specialist support services such as counselling and family mediation.

With 1 in 100 young people now expected to experience homelessness, unemployment rates three times higher for 16-25 year olds compared to the rest of the UK population, and half of all mental health problems being established by age 14, the need for our services has never been more prevalent. Step by Step need to raise over £600,000 this year to deliver the services required to enable young people facing hard times to begin to thrive.

To support Step by Step’s work, please visit www.justgiving.com/stepbysteppartnership and set up your race sponsorship page.
