The Borrowdale Trail Races are a trail runners dream incorporating everything in terms of scenery and variation of terrain. Now in its 9th year this is a classic on the trail race calendar. Incorporating Derwentwater lakeshore trails and the Borrowdale valley, there's a course for everyone. These are fantastic trail races based from Keswick with distances of 5k, 13k and 21k.

Make sure to take in all the stunning vistas these routes have in abundance. Incorporating everything in terms of scenery and variation of terrain, a key feature of the route is the well-balanced mix of woodland trails, rocky singletracks and a few testing climbs following footpaths and bridleways.

Based from Keswick, there are three distances of 21k, 13k & 5k to choose from.

Start Times: 9.00am - 21k route / 9.30am - 13k route / 1.00pm - 5km

Distance: 21k,13k & 5k routes                     Event Venue: Crow Park, Lake Road, Keswick CA12 5DJ

Start Location: The 21k and 13k will start  from the track adjacent to the entrance/car park at Lingholm, CA12 5TZ (GR 251 223). This is just outside the village of Portinscale, which is approx. 35min walk/25min jog from event HQ (see map).

5k Start: Crow Park

Finish Location: Crow Park, Keswick

21k Route: From the marina the first section leads through woodland trails to Hawse End Bay on the shores of Derwentwater. The route then follows the lakeshore trail through mixed woodland to the picturesque village of Grange, before winding its way past Castle Crag to Rosthwaite in the heart of the Borrowdale valley. A steady climb out of Rosthwaite following the bridleway leads to the hamlet of Watendlath. The trail continues along the beautiful Watendlath valley before descending to Ashness Bridge via a short road section. A singletrack traverse below Falcon Crags is followed by a gradual descent into Great Wood. Cross the Borrowdale road back to the lakeshore past Friars Crag and follow the path skirting the shore of the bay back into the finish at Crow Park.

13km Route: This deviates off the main route at the south end of Derwent water and crosses the road into High Lodore woods. A testing section of single track ascends through the woods parallel to the famous climbing area of Shepherd's Crag. Follow the trail alongside the beck past spectacular waterfalls and pools to re-join the main route at Ashness Wood.

5km Route: Lakeshore Route: This is a fantastic route if you are new to trail running. Starting and finishing at Crow Park, the route winds past Friar's Crag "Keswick's best view" following the lakeshore trails to Calfclose Bay and the Centenary Stone. Enjoy the spectacular views down into the Borrowdale Valley. Cross the shingle beach and loop back to re-join the outward loop at Ings Wood. The terrain is predominantly easy gravel trails with some gentle inclines.

All routes will be fully marked so no navigation experience is necessary.

Entries: Minimum entry age 17 years old. (5km open to all ages).
