Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic situation & restrictions imposed by Forestry England for public events, we are unable to organise the rescheduled Kielder Ultra for Saturday October 17th 2020. Forestry England are currently only authorising event permissions up to a maximum of 30 people for events taking place on Forestry England land. Although we understand that various events are now going ahead in the UK, for the event to go ahead we need full permission of Foresty England.
The health & safety of everyone involved is always our main priority, whether this is participants, event staff, or the local community & members of the public. As there is still a great deal of uncertainty re the Covid virus we cannot guarantee that this would be the case to host a safe and enjoyable event.
All participants have been sent an email. Please check your junk folder if you have not received this.
The 2021 event date is Saturday 10th April. We look forward to seeing you then.
Best Wishes,
High Terrain Events Team
An ultra trail running event based in the vast expanse of Kielder Water & Forest Park, Northumberland ... from lakeshore to heather moorland, beautiful trails and superb scenery.
Date: Saturday 4th April 2020
Distances: 82km, 50km & 32km route options
Kielder Water & Forest Park spans 600 square kilometres and is home to the largest forest in England and the largest man-made lake in northern Europe. The area features mile upon mile of purpose-built trails including forest walks, woodland singletrack and heather clad moorland. An ideal location for an ultra race and the perfect way to explore this amazing area.
With two distances of 82k and 50k, plus a 32k option to choose from there is something for everyone.
All routes will be fully marked so no navigation experience is necessary.
82k & 50k Route Highlights
Brand New for 2020...Kielder 82k: We've replaced the two lap 100k course with this spectacular 82k distance. The 82k route is basically the 50k & 32k courses combined, encompassing all the fantastic highlights from both routes.
The course incorporates a unique blend of some of the more remote areas of the forest and also the main attractions. This is a superb route whether you are looking to complete your first ultra or an experienced runner. Starting and finishing at Kielder Castle, the 50k loop encircles the whole of Kielder Water. The route features sections along the tranquil Lewisburn Valley, Kielder Viaduct, Bakethin Reservoir nature reserve, Bellingburn Valley and sections of the Lakeside Way multi-user trail and the blue graded bike trail. The route also climbs onto open moorland to offer stunning panoramic views over the whole of Kielder Water and across to the Scottish Border.
Returning to Kielder Castle, this is the finish location for the 50k runners. For the 100k, it's a chance to refuel, enjoy the support and head out onto the final 32k section.
Kielder 32k/20mile Trail Race
Although not an ultra distance this is ideal if you're looking for a long distance challenge or maybe thinking of stepping up to an ultra in the future.
The 20 mile route is a shortened version of the ultra. Starting from Kielder Castle the course follows the same route as the ultra to CP1 at Kielder Dam. The route then returns along the Lakeside Way to re-join the ultra route at Bakethin reservoir. A steady climb back up into the forest is soon followed by a superb descent back to the finish at Kielder Castle.
Venue: Kielder Castle Visitor Centre, Kielder Water & Kielder Forest Park, Northumberland, NE48 1ER.
Included: Professionally run event, qualified & experienced personnel at various checkpoints, qualified medical support, online registration, electronic chip timing, unique finishers medal, fully marked routes, downloadable route maps, gpx downloads, Eco Cup, Hot Food, Drinks & Refreshments at finish, well-stocked hydration and feed stations on the course.
Please note: This year there is an option to purchase an event tech t-shirt for an additional £6.
"A massive thank you to each organiser, marshal, photographer and runner. You all helped this girl complete her first ultra. So much support, so friendly, fantastic location. You all helped create an amazing experience. Thank you and well done." Jen Runner Bean
