The SAGE Blaydon Race 2020

The SAGE Blaydon Race 2020

Information and registration

Tuesday
9 June 2020

Postponed to 2021

Unfortunately we have made the extremely difficult decision to cancel the 40th Anniversary SAGE BLAYDON RACE on 9th June 2020. The uncertainty as to when events will again be allowed to take place has been the main factor in this decision. As you can imagine there are many hours of voluntary work that go into this event and also as of this week the event starts to incur costs with road closure applications etc.

There will therefore be NO BLAYDON RACE IN 2020 and for those who have entered your place will automatically transfer to 9th June 2021. We will be posting details soon for anyone who wants a refund but bear in mind that you will then have to reapply for your place in next years race. We will soon be reopening the transfer period on Resultsbase where you can transfer your number to another runner for next year and this will be open until early next year.

You will all receive an email soon with all information and options available to you.

The 40th SAGE Blaydon Race 2021

The race will be run on Tuesday, 9th June 2021
expected start at 7:15 pm

The Event

The SAGE Blaydon Race is now in its 40th year and has become the largest and best Club Race in the North East. We are delighted to announce that SAGE will again be the main sponsor of the event. In 2020 we are asking runners to meet on Grey Street and they will then be walked around to the start at the bottom of Westgate Road. The overall distance this year is approximately 6 miles from Newcastle City Centre, along Scotswood Road past Armstrong’s factory (Reece Group) over the Scotswood Bridge, along Chainbridge Road, through Cowen Industrial Estate and around to the finish on Churchill Playing Fields. There’ll be music and dance at the start, along the course and also at the finish.

We emphasise that the Blaydon Race is a serious road race run under UK Athletics rules and not a sponsored walk. We will not accept entries from people who intend to walk the whole distance.

Entry Fee

Entry for the 2020 race will be £27 with a £2 discount available to British Athletics/UKA members - only one entry per order.

Your British Athletics/Welsh Athletics/UKA membership number must be entered and will be checked during the registration process - if valid the appropriate discount will be applied. Scottish Athletics members can get the discount by entering their membership number into the appropriate box on the same page.

An administration fee of 6% will be applied to each order by our online entry system partner, Results Base.

All finishers will receive a t-shirt, local beer, crisps, sandwich and a soft drink. Runners will also receive a commemorative kit bag. Runners have the option to receive an SMS text message with their race time immediately after crossing the finish line (if requested at the point of entry).

Race Charity 2020

We are pleased to say that the official race charity for 2020 is Metro Radio Cash for Kids. Please take the time to read about the charity below. You will be given the option to donate during the entry process, every little helps.

Cash for Kids is a local charity, and it is our mission to support local children who are disabled, disadvantaged, sick, or suffering from abuse or neglect, from the ages of 0-18. All the funds for the charity are raised locally, and redistributed locally, to individuals, families and other charities dedicated to improving the lives of young people.

We are proud to operate an 80% contribution across the UK, with clear visibility on where the money goes and who it is helping. However, at Metro Radio Cash For Kids, our last audit showed that our contribution was much higher, with at least 90 pence in every pound donated going directly to the children we help and support.

This year, we hope to support lots more children in the region. Year on year, the need for support for children across the North East is growing. As such, the Cash For Kids targets are increasing. This year, it is our aim to raise over £2.5 million to help local children. Without the support of the public, local businesses, donations and grants from trusts, it would be impossible for us to meet this target and continue our life altering work. With the help and support of The Blaydon Race we can make a difference the lives of local children
