IMPORTANT COVID ANNOUNCEMENT - The Horwich Triathlon will go ahead on Sunday August 23rd 2020 as a bike & run event only. We are not able to secure the use of the leisure centre so unfortunately we have been forced to remove the swim discipline. It will take place from Rivington and Blackrod School (same location as Fire Fighters Duathlon) and there will be slight route changes to accommodate this venue. The format will see cyclists starting at 30 second time gaps (or similar), before completing the run to Rivington Pike and back. Social distancing measures will be put in place and we ask all competitors to help us ensure that the event goes ahead safely, by adhering to the guidelines given. The route maps and documents on this page will be edited soon to show any route adjustments. This is a historic local event and whilst we're disappointed that we can't hold the swim discipline, we're still sure that it's going to be an EPIC day. Thanks everyone for your support.
Horwich Triathlon is known as ‘The Race To The Pike’. It’s one of the oldest triathlon events in the North West, dating back over 25 years. It starts with a 500m pool swim and then a 40k undulating cycle ride, but we save the best bit until the end. The 8.6k run climbs all the way to the summit of Rivington Pike, before descending back to the finish at Horwich Leisure Centre. We have all ability levels taking part, but it’s not for the faint hearted. It’s a tough challenge, but that’s what makes the event so popular and whilst the run is brutal, it’s what makes is iconic. This event is also the EPIC Club Championships, your club can score points by having more competitors in the event and finishing higher up the ranks. The club with the most points wins £1000 to donate to a charity of their choice.
