Helping Kids with Cancer Sportive
Sunday 12th May 2024
We are excited to share that our next event, the 'Helping Kids with Cancer Sportive’ on 12th May 2024. For this event, we have chosen to partner with Cyclists Fighting Cancer (CFC) as our beneficiary.
Cyclists Fighting Cancer is a remarkable charity that provides lightweight bikes, tandems, and specially adapted trikes to young people going through cancer treatment, helping them regain their strength, confidence, and independence.
Cancer affects millions of lives, and we recognise the importance of providing support to those facing these tough times. Cyclists Fighting Cancer shares our belief in the power of cycling to bring about positive change.
Short Route
Our short route is ideal for beginners or those who prefer a shorter distance. It offers a manageable challenge while still providing an enjoyable experience. Participants can expect to complete the ride within a reasonable time frame and enjoy the ride out to the Lancashire countryside.
Starting from Bolton Arena, Horwich, riders will head out to Adlington, through Coppull and into Eccleston, where you will be greeted with your first feed station. From here, you will ride the country lanes, heading past Wrightington and into Standish where your second feed station will await. Once refuelled, you will make your way back to Bolton Arena where you will collect your commemorative medal.
Long Route
The long route caters to the intermediate riders who have some experience with longer distances. It presents a moderate challenge, requiring a bit more endurance and stamina compared to short option.
Like the short route, you will be starting from Bolton Arena, Horwich, you will head out towards Adlington, Coppull, with your first feed station at Eccleston.
You will continue out along the Lancashire lanes to Hesketh Bank where you should get your first sighting of the seaside as you meander to the coast and head into Southport.
From Southport you make your way out via Ainsdale and continue towards Parbold. Once done, you will make your way to Standish to the feed station where you can take advantage of the food and a short rest.
You will rejoin the short route and head back to Bolton Arena for your medal and celebration.
Regardless of the chosen route, all participants can look forward to a fantastic day out. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery, experience the joy of cycling, whilst raising money for Cyclist Fighting Cancer.
On the day we will also be holding a children’s mini sportive on the running track at Bolton Arena. We have an option on the online registration for participants to gift a place for a child to maximise profits for the charity.
