Ride High is a children’s charity based in Milton Keynes. We use horses to connect with and give confidence to vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people in our community. Through harnessing the power of horses, we effect lasting change in children’s attitude, self-confidence and life prospects so they become happy young people who are positively engaged in the outside world.
Children aged 5-18 years are referred to Ride High on an individual basis by professionals so we can prioritise those most in need of help. Each of them faces challenges that make everyday life a struggle. Many have suffered neglect, abuse and/or trauma which has led to mental health challenges including anxiety and depression.
Up to 120 children attend Ride High at our home at the Ride High Equestrian Centre in Milton Keynes every week for 12-36 weeks. They follow a programme of structured learning which includes riding and caring for the horses and associated educational and creative projects in our clubroom and garden. Ride High’s unique programme empowers our members to develop new skills, to increase their confidence and self-esteem and to build greater resilience to change negative mindsets and challenging behaviours.
To continue its work in the community Ride High must raise £650,000 every year. The Ride MK Cycling Festival is one of our new fundraising events to help us achieve this. We’re organising a fantastic event for Milton Keynes and ask that participants raise funds to help support those who need it in our community.
