Grand National 10km Trail Run | Findon

Friday 9^th, Saturday 10^th & Sunday 11^th April 2021

The format for this year’s event will be slightly different than we’d originally planned for 2020 due to expected Covid restrictions.  More than anything, we want to see runners enjoying themselves and as a direct result, Findon School will benefit from the proceeds in what’s been a testing time for the school and staff.

Our original plan was to include kids races on Nepcote Green whilst the main run was taking place. That’s not going to be possible this year with the (expected) restrictions and safeguarding measures we need to put in place. However, by spreading the event over three days on Grand National weekend, you can get out on the trails and follow a new simple course which will be signed and mapped to make sure no one gets lost!

Together with Results Base, the route will be timed using their QRTag service. This allows participants to self-time with their mobile. It’s all done in real-time so you get a constantly updated leaderboard and there’s even the option to get turn-by-turn route guidance. You can start anytime on Friday 9^th, Saturday 10^th or Sunday 11^th April. Just scan the QRTag with your phone at the start and finish (we’ll tell you where they are going to be) and your result will be streamed live. You can run it as many times as you like over the 3 days. All runners will receive a bespoke medal and a complimentary hot drink & flapjack after the event at Dee Dee's Café’s.

The Raw Running crew will be at the finish a couple of hours each day, (times to be confirmed nearer the event), so if you coincide your run with us you can collect your medal from the crew. If not, we’ll post the medals to you the following week. You will be able to upload a map of the course on your phone or just print off the detailed course details.  It’s a really simple course that won’t need too much signing.

Raw Running are proud to be organising a testing, fun and off-road charity 10km trail run at Findon Village between Friday 9^th April and 11^th April 2021 during Grand National weekend.  The location is second to none, based in the picturesque village of Findon, the runs follow the lane up to Cissbury Ring and onwards towards Steyning Bostal in the South Downs National Park. Once at the bostal it’s great run downhill following the ancient Monarchs Way all the way to Nepcote Green and the finish at the historic Wattle House. This is a charity event with all proceeds going to St John the Baptist Primary School at Findon.  With this being Grand National Day and the village’s racing history, why not run in a jockey’s outfit and win the prize for the best dressed Filly or Colt!  In fact, to make sure we keep to the racing theme, you’ll need to register not only your full name, but that of your racing avatar! (an avatar is your alter ego or character!).   So, will you be an Aldaniti, & Bob Champion from 1981? Or perhaps the classic Red Rum, Mr Frisk, L’Escargot or you could make up one of your own such as Aerobically Challenged, Cirque Du Sore Legs or a Miss Demeanour!   The Protein Ball Co, our favourite energy food, will be on hand at the finish to provide you with your daily supplement – no bags of hay here!

What is the Grand National: Considered to be one of the greatest steeplechases in the world, the Grand National is the symbol of racing. This iconic race sees jockeys, as well as trainers, go head to head in a bid to win the sport’s most famous prize. With nearly two and a half miles of turf to cover, it covers 16 individual fences which are as iconic as the race itself.  This includes the likes of the infamous Chair not to mention Bechers Brook where many thoroughbreds come a cropper. On the other hand, it is a real test for not only the horse, but the jockey who needs to maintain the pace of the ride throughout the race.
